What is a business model?

In general, every time we talk about how to start a business, or how to create a company in Chile, we must know and be very clear about our goals today and in the future, our business strategies and a direction that will help us to achieve them, for that and as an initial step we must know what our business model is.

First of all, to guide our company on a path that will lead us to meet all the goals and expectations that we set when we start our venture, we must define what a business model is, this in a simple and straightforward way is the plan, method and / or strategy that we will use to obtain and generate our income, benefits and all kinds of profits for the creation of a new company, likewise we must mention that this implies being clear about what customers we want to reach and why is our company that can meet their needs and not another.

This is why we must be very meticulous and take the necessary time to effectively plan our guidelines, since a poorly organized business process model is synonymous with no growth and, consequently, a drop in the profits that we intend to obtain.

Generation of a business model

First of all, we must know and be very clear about the type of customer we are looking for or aiming to reach. It is very important that we know how to differentiate and understand people and the needs they have as consumers and possible future customers.

We will have to elaborate a value proposition, which will basically help future customers to know why we can satisfy their needs and not another competing company, here it is important to know how to identify and express the problems we are going to solve and the needs we intend to satisfy, on the other hand we will have to know how to get our product to future customers, and how we can make that customer who is just getting to know our company want and decide to stay with the company with which we are undertaking.

It is important to know how much and how our customers will pay, we will have to study how the market works where we intend to insert ourselves and what values are handled in similar products. At the same time we have to identify the activities that will be key to carry out our business, here we refer specifically to efficiently manage the processes of production, marketing and advertising that we will use to make our company reach the goals set at the beginning and for this to become a reality, a fundamental piece in a company are the partners that will help us to produce, supply and distribute the production.

Types of business models

There are many business models and these are constantly changing and adapting their operation to the times, needs and movements of the market in which they are inserted, the economy is changing over time and that is why we can find from the business models of a company that have survived the passage of time and new platforms, to those that have been born on the internet and social networks.

Subscriptions

Here we must establish a fee to be paid periodically for access to services and products.

Franchises

Basically, an agreement is established with a third party merchant to use the names, logos, products and image in exchange for a certain service. There are many examples of franchises, such as those fast food or sugary drinks companies that exist practically all over the world.

Freemium model

It is intended to offer a wide range of products for free and that customers can access superior or more complete benefits by paying a certain amount, a great example of this model is the myriad of Smartphone applications that offer an expandable service base by paying for their advanced version.

Dealer or distributor model

In this example, there is no "production" as conventionally understood, the company purchases and distributes, and its profit will come from commissions.

Concession

Rights are granted to exploit or provide a certain service, generally between the State and private parties, such as mining or highway concessions.

Hook product

A product is sold at a low cost and the profit is generated through the sale of a second product that will be in greater demand, such as printer ink cartridges. The business model we choose to follow and the way in which we put it into practice is how we will obtain the results in the short, medium and long term. This is a fundamental aspect in the creation of a company and one to which we must always pay close attention so that our enterprise grows and meets our expectations.
